What will you learn in this module?


The aim of this module is to assist you to understand:


         the different types of incontinence

         how incontinence in the older person is assessed

         the signs of stress incontinence and lower urinary tract symptoms

         drugs that affect incontinence in older patients

         detrusor overactivity and overactive bladder

         special investigations and 'red flags' to exclude serious pathology

         incontinence in the setting of other conditions ie stroke or diabetes

         the aims of management and contemporary management measures

         the Continence Management Paradigm

         how and when to make a referral to a continence specialist

         what regional continence services are available
